Keeping gutters clear of leaves and other debris should be a homeowner’s goal all year round. However, these tasks can be time-consuming, and are often left until there becomes an issue with them being clogged or rusting.

If you’re like the majority of homeowners out there, you simply don’t have time to be continuously cleaning out your gutters. Installing a gutter guard or leaf stopper is a great solution for this! And the best part is that you don’t always need to spend thousands on an expensive gutter guard system.

We take a look at the range of gutter guard products on the market today, and how they can help you.

Plastic Gutter Guard

Made from recycled materials, this gutter guard is very easy to install and does a good job of keeping small amounts of leaves out of gutters!
Simply cut it down to size, roll it and place into the gutter. Some kits also come with metal clips to hold them in place.

Galvanised Mesh Gutter Guard

This one is recommended if you live in an area prone to fires, as the Robust steel mesh will retain its shape and keep your gutters protected in the event.

The Galvanised Mesh comes in multiple sizes and is also quite easy to install. Simply cut it down to size, roll and place in the gutter (make sure you’re using the correct safety tools ie. wire cutters and gloves).

Hedgehog Filter

Essentially a long, narrow bristle brush, the Hedgehog Filter is by far the simplest to install. The polypropylene materials it is made from are also fire resistant.

Leaf Stopper

If you have problems with a large amount of leaves and debris collecting on your roof valleys, you might be looking for something a bit more heavy duty. Leaf Stopper is a professionally installed mesh system, and while you might pay a bit more upfront, it is far more effective in the long term.

The Leaf Stopper works by installing a fine wire mesh over the first row of tiles, securing it to the edges of the gutter and tucking it under the second row. It can also be inserted into the corner valleys of the roof to prevent leaves from accumulating.
